Initialy Seth was known as the god of wind and the desert storms and an ally of his brother Osiris. Later Seth fell into disfavour with Egyptians and they started to associate him with evil and chaos. A legend tells that Seth kills Osiris and claims his throne. He is later conquered by Horus, the son of Osiris. Horus fights the chaos and restores order to the world.

This resin figure is based on similar turquoise faience figures of hippos in the British Museum and the "William" in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.

This wonderful frog weight is moulded from the original, which dates from the 18th - 19th Dynasties (New Kingdom approx 14th C. - 11th C. B.C.), displayed at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Bronze animal weights were commonly used at this time to weigh gold amongst other items.

Frog was a sacred animal to Egyptians. They usually associated the frog with fertility and resurrection. Heqet - the frog headed goddess was a protector of childbirth.
