Figure of a cat on a base. Cast in resin, finished in black and gold.

The cat was associated not only with Bastet. It was also the sacred animal of Ra - the god of Sun and father of creation. Ra has been depicted as The Great Cat of Heliopolis who defeated Apep - the evil spirit dwelling in eternal darkness.

Turquoise coloured figure of a hippopotamus, cast in resin.

Hippos were sacred to Ancient Egyptians. The hippopotamus-headed Tawaret was a goddess of pregnancy and childbirth.

This resin figure is based on similar turquoise faience figures of hippos in the British Museum and the "William" in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.

This wonderful frog weight is moulded from the original, which dates from the 18th - 19th Dynasties (New Kingdom approx 14th C. - 11th C. B.C.), displayed at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Bronze animal weights were commonly used at this time to weigh gold amongst other items.
