Bast Egyptian Goddess

Bast Egyptian Goddess

Bast - or as she is sometimes called Bastet - is the protectress of the two lands - the Red Land and the Black Land or Kemet. Further Bast was begun to be associated with Artemis goddess and thus her image as protectress of children and mothers evolved.

It is still not clear if the alternative name Bastet is correct or just a misunderstood form. Some claim that in Greek period she was misinterpreted as ba-Aset, which actually means soul of Isis and has nothing to do with Bast. However, there is evidence suggesting that Bastet was just a variation of her original name with a feminine suffix. Kemet practitioners sometimes call her Bubastis but never Bastet! Bast was associated with a cat.

In the city of Bastet, where her cult started spreading from, there was a large shrine for worshippers and the tradition to mumify cats and create cat statues started.

We have a nice selection of Bast Egyptian goddess attributes, cat statues in different shapes and colours.

Pictured is our newest range of cat figurines (0104, 0103, 0102 from left to right); This photo might help you comparing the sizes. Please scroll down to see all cat figurines currently available.
